Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can Nix-Stix mold releases be diluted?

A: In most cases solvent-based mold releases can be diluted with additional solvents such as naphtha or mineral spirits.  Water-based emulsions can be diluted with DI water.  The final concentration of Nix-Stix mold release is best determined by trial at your plant.

Q: How do I apply Nix-Stix mold releases?

A: Depending on your particular operation, most of the Nix-Stix mold releases can be sprayed, rolled-on, dipped, brushed, or wiped onto the clean mold.  The clean mold should be conditioned before using.  This can be accomplished by applying one or more light coats of mold release to the mold and heating the mold through one or two cycles prior to molding.  After conditioning, Nix-Stix mold releases are applied when needed to prevent sticking.

Q: Can you recommend a Nix-Stix mold release for my molding operation?

A: Choosing a mold release depends on several factors: type of material being molded, operating temperatures, cycle times, mold material, VOC restrictions, etc.  We can recommend the best mold release for your application if you call 1-800-227-5538.

Q: How do I reduce VOC's produced from my mold release?

A: There are two ways to reduce the production of VOC's: (1) Use a micro-sprayer system, which can spray very precise quantities of pure Nix Stix L-506.  It uses no solvents so no VOC's, flammable vapors or toxic fumes are produced.  Tests show that Nix Stix L-506 causes little buildup on the mold.  (2) Use a water-based silicone mold release such as Nix Stix LO-582.  Contact us for assistance.
